Assembly Bill 3155

This legislation would lead to more imports from foreign countries, further crowding our ports, inviting massive amounts of pollution from supertankers, and increasing our reliance on foreign oil.

This bill makes oil companies operating within 3,200-feet of people immediately guilty of causing any health problems they might suffer. If the bill passes, oil companies would be required to pay millions of dollars for illnesses that are not connected to oil wells. A person could smoke 2 packs of cigarettes per day for 50 years, get lung cancer, and then the state would hold oil companies in the region financially accountable for that person’s lung cancer. Oil producers would be deemed guilty, in advance, without any opportunity to show innocence. It is an unjust bill that intends to bankrupt the oil industry.

Introduced by Assemblymember Laura Friedman, it is almost the exact same as Senate Bill 556, which was defeated last year.
