A new Reuters report reveals that California's fuel imports surged to a four-year high in May 2025, with nearly 3.3 million barrels of gasoline and diesel arriving in the state, the highest monthly volume since the 2021 post-COVID rebound. This sharp increase was driven by planned and unplanned refinery outages as well as insufficient local crude oil supply, forcing the state to rely heavily on foreign fuel sources to meet demand.
