A new Republican-led effort in the House indicates a shift in how power generation projects are prioritized on the nation’s grid. The main idea is to favor “dispatchable” energy sources, such as fossil fuels and nuclear, while decreasing the priority of intermittent renewables, like wind and solar. Proposals include:

GRID Power Act (H.R. 1047): Allow grid operators to fast-track approval and interconnection of projects that can consistently generate power when needed.

Permitting Reform: Simplify the process for cross-border energy infrastructure, particularly for oil, gas, and electricity, by reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

Reinstating the National Coal Council: Bring coal back into the national energy policy conversation, focusing on reliability and security.

The new framework aims to restore balance and strengthen overall grid stability.
