SACRAMENTO, CA - "Governor Gavin Newsom has signed SB 237 into law, signaling a critical step toward strengthening energy security, safeguarding jobs, and reducing fuel costs for California families. This significant legislation streamlines Kern County’s permitting process, helping our state produce more of its own energy under the world’s strictest labor, health, and environmental standards.
"But California’s energy crisis can't be fixed with just one bill. Our state uses 1.8 million barrels of oil daily, yet we now import nearly 80% of it, mostly from foreign countries with poor labor protections, little environmental safeguards, and human rights abuses that California would never accept at home. Every barrel we don’t produce here leads to more tanker traffic, increased pollution, higher prices at the pump, and 55,000 lost jobs for hardworking Californians.
"We urge lawmakers to continue working with local producers to expand responsible domestic production and refining capacity. By adopting practical and balanced solutions, California can reduce reliance on foreign oil imports, protect middle-class jobs, and keep energy affordable."
- Rock Zierman, Chief Executive Officer of the California Independent Petroleum Association.
